Cambodia Schools

Because every child deserves an education

Building a School, Building a Life

Imagine not having the opportunity to go to school.  Imagine not being able to read and write, or to understand basic math. This is the case for a number of children in rural Cambodia. Many children living in Cambodian villages have no school to attend, and those that do have a school, are hindered by leaky ceilings, crumbling desks, and crowded classrooms. They have the desire to pull themselves out of poverty, but if their goals are ever to be reached, they are going to need our help.

My name is Christina Schmidt, I am 14 years old and am in 8th grade. During this year I am raising money to build a school in rural Cambodia. I need to raise $13,000 to give to a non-profit organization called American Assistance for Cambodia. When American Assistance receives this donation, it will be matched by an additional $20,000 from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank. This will provide the amount needed to fund the building of a school in a rural village.

American Assistance for Cambodia has helped to build almost 450 lower and primary level schools since they started their Rural School Project in 1999. They are an independent, nonprofit organization registered in the US. Over 95% of the money that American Assistance for Cambodia receives goes directly toward their programs.

A professional fundraiser is mentoring me through out this project. She is confident that I will be able raise all of the $13,000, however, if I raise over $13,000, I will use the money to provide the children at the school with common necessities such as books to further enhance the children's education.

I hope you will join me in this urgent cause to help other children. I feel so fortunate to have always been able to have a school to attend, and hope that someday, every child will have the chance they deserve to get an education. Together we can make this world a better place, one school at a time.
